Themed District Design

Copperwood Heights, Boomtown Festival, UK

Copperwood Heights marked the next chapter in the evolution of Copperwood, transforming the once small fry town into a glamorous district at the top of Hippy Highway. Inspired by the golden age of 1920’s showbiz, the world was filled with ambition, excess and old Hollywood glamour with a twist of cosmic energy. Where the band is swinging, the gin is flowing and everyone is chasing their moment in the spotlight.

My role spanned the full design and delivery process, helping to develop the district from early concepts through to technical drawings, fabrication and on-site installation. The challenge was to create a world that felt theatrical and aspirational, while still retaining the character and history of Copperwood. Every element contributed to the story of a town on the rise, where stars in their eyes and martinis in hand, the movers and shakers were all riding the showbiz train straight to the top.

Alongside the design work, I managed a team of crew throughout the on-site build, coordinating the delivery of multiple areas and ensuring the creative vision translated into the physical environment. Working within the fast-paced and often unpredictable nature of a live festival build meant constantly problem-solving, adapting designs and working closely with fabricators, artists and the wider production team.

From large-scale architectural features and streetscapes to the smaller details that brought the world to life, Copperwood Heights was designed as a fully immersive environment, inviting festival-goers to step into the glitz, glamour and chaos of a town chasing the bright lights.
